Everything You Need to Know Before Arriving at FangYuan Centre

Landing in Honk Kong

Landing in Hong Kong offers numerous international flight connections and a convenient high-speed rail link to Chaoshan Station, near FangYuan TaiChi Centre. See below for detailed information about this travel option.

Booking Train Ticket

You'll need to book your high-speed train ticket online. Tickets are released 14 days before your travel date. The train departs from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and arrives at Chaoshan Station. Trains run approximately every hour between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

Important: The check-in process for border crossing at West Kowloon Station is similar to that of an airport, so please allow 1.5 hours for check-in. For a smooth transfer from the airport to FangYuan TaiChi Centre via high-speed rail, we recommend allowing at least 5 hours. See below for more detailed advice about timings.

We highly recommend booking your train ticket in advance via Trip.com. Second-class tickets cost approximately $30 USD. When booking, you'll be asked for your passport number, as this will serve as your ticket. Please ensure you enter the correct passport number. If you have multiple passports, use the one you'll be using to enter mainland China.

Arriving at HK Airport

Allow 1 hour. After landing and collecting your luggage follow the signs for the Airport Express. This trains offers direct connection between the airport and Hong Kong high speed station. The journey takes 22 mins and costs around $15 USD. You can buy your ticket from a vending machines at the platforms. You can pay by card and when buying a ticket choose Kowloon as your destination.

Please retain the printed confirmation of your entry into Hong Kong given to you during passport control, as you will need it to board the high-speed train.

Arrivnign at Kowloon West

Allow 0.5 hour.  The Airport Express train arrives at Kowloon Station, which is connected to Hong Kong West Kowloon High Speed Station. Between the two stations, you'll find the 5 Elements Shopping Centre, where you can rest, grab a bite, or have a coffee. If you have extra time to spare before your train to Chaoshan, you can use the self-service luggage storage located near the information desk and explore Hong Kong or go to the cinema at the 5 Elements Shopping Centre. Remember to return to collect your luggage at least 2 hours before your train departure time.

Consider obtaining some Chinese yuan (RMB in advance, as credit card usage may be limited in smaller towns. It's always helpful to have cash on hand for purchases on the train or upon arrival in China.

Boarding Cross-border High Speed Train

Allow 1.5 hours. 

Your train ticket is linked to your passport, so you won't need to collect a physical ticket. Once your ticket is issued, Trip.com will email you the details, including your allocated coach and seat number.

At Hong Kong West Kowloon Station:

  1. Entering the Station: Scan your passport's photo page at the gates to enter the departure area. Staff are available to assist if needed.

  2. Security Check: Proceed through the security check.

  3. Border Control:

    • Departing Hong Kong: Present your passport and entry slip at the first checkpoint.

    • Entering Mainland China: A few minutes' walk away, you'll reach the second checkpoint to enter mainland China. For a smooth experience, complete your landing card beforehand and have your FangYuan TaiChi Centre booking confirmation ready.

  4. Second Security Check: After passport control, go through another security check to reach the departure concourse.

  5. Boarding: Check the screens for your departure gate (platform). Important: Gates close 10 minutes before the train departs, so allow ample time for boarding. Your ticket details show your coach and seat number.

Important Notes:

  • First-class or business-class tickets provide access to the business lounge.

  • Food options within the station are limited. You can purchase food onboard the train, but only cash (RMB) is accepted.

Arriving at Chaoshan

After approximately 2.5 hours, you'll arrive at Chaoshan Station. Upon disembarking the train, follow the signs for the exit and scan your passport at the gate.

Your stay includes a pre-arranged transfer to FangYuan TaiChi Centre. Our driver will be waiting for you just outside the gate, holding a sign with the Centre's logo or your name. They will assist you with your luggage, and approximately 40 minutes later, you'll arrive at the Centre, where a warm welcome awaits.

Landing in Jieyang

If you arrivning on a domenstic flight you will not need to go through border contorl as you would have had done this at the port of entry. If yuou arriving on international flight please make sure that while entering China you have completed your landing card beforehand and have your FangYuan TaiChi Centre confirmation email ready for a smooth process at passport control.

Your stay includes a pre-arranged transfer to FangYuan TaiChi Centre. Our driver will be waiting for you in ther arrival hall, holding a sign with the Centre's logo or your name. They will assist you with your luggage, and approximately 40 minutes later, you'll arrive at the Centre, where a warm welcome awaits.

Things to Consider Before Coming to FangYuan TaiChi Centre

✈️ Travel Insurance
While not legally required, we strongly recommend obtaining comprehensive travel and medical insurance. This can protect you in case of trip cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost belongings.

🌐 VPN Access
Certain websites and apps like Google, Instagram, and WhatsApp may be restricted in China. To stay connected, please download and install a VPN before arriving. We recommend Astrill or ExpressVPN, both of which are reliable in China.

🔌 Power Adaptor
Our Centre provides USB Type A sockets and power outlets compatible with US and European plugs. If you use a different plug type, please bring an adaptor suited for China’s Type A or Type I sockets.

💊 Medication
Bring enough of any prescription medications you regularly use to last your entire stay. You may also want to pack your preferred over-the-counter medicines, as specific brands may not be available locally.

🥋 Training Clothing

We will provide you with a FangYuan TaiChi uniform for practice. Please bring flat-soled shoes for training — this helps you stay grounded and move correctly.
Alternatively, Tai Chi shoes are available for purchase at the Centre if you prefer to buy a pair (35USD/Pair) after arrival.

📱 Mobile Connectivity (Nomad eSIM)
We recommend installing a Nomad eSIM for reliable mobile data in China. eSIMs are easy to activate before your flight or upon landing. Make sure your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM technology. This will allow you to access maps, messages, or ride apps during transit. Wi-Fi is available at the Centre, but mobile data is very helpful during your journey.
